VT Cosmetics has arrived at Kumii — a Korean brand that, over the past couple of years, has rewritten what home skincare can do at all. What is VT Cosmetics?
VT Cosmetics is a South Korean skincare brand whose name comes from the phrase In-Vogue and Timeless. In the brand's own words the goal is simple: "boosting basic strength to recover from stress" — strengthening the skin's basic resilience so it can recover from stress on its own.
VT first became known to a wider audience through its Cica line — soothing products based on Asian pennywort (Centella asiatica), which is still one of the best-selling soothing ranges in Korea. The real breakthrough came when VT took that same Cica complex and combined it with something far more unusual: microneedles derived from the skeletons of marine organisms. That is how the Cica Reedle™ technology, and the Reedle Shot line built on it, was born.
Today VT's range covers almost the entire skincare routine — cleansing balms, toners, serums, creams, masks, eye care and even lip glosses — but nearly all of them are tied in some way to either microneedles or PDRN.
What sets VT apart from other Korean brands?
1. Technology, not an ingredient trend
Most K-beauty brands position themselves through a single hero ingredient: niacinamide, vitamin C, propolis, snail mucin. VT stands out because its central promise is not what to put on the skin, but how it reaches the skin. Reedle Shot is meant to be used as a so-called "step zero" — right after cleansing, before everything else — so that the rest of the routine works better. That is an architectural difference, not a marketing nuance.
2. Vegan PDRN instead of salmon
PDRN (polydeoxyribonucleotide) is currently one of the most talked-about actives in Korea and is traditionally sourced from salmon germ cells. VT went another way and developed a plant-based alternative — PhytoPDRN® Panax, which combines sodium DNA with ginseng (Panax ginseng) root extract. According to the manufacturer, this low-molecular form is absorbed 5.5 times better than salmon-based PDRN. In practical terms it also means VT's PDRN products fit a vegan routine — which salmon PDRN rules out.
3. A graded system, not one strength for everyone
Reedle Shot is not one product but a scale: 50 → 100 → 300 (with stronger levels available internationally). The number indicates the density of microneedles in the product, which lets the skin build tolerance gradually — exactly as with retinol. Few Korean brands have such a clearly thought-out "growth path" within a single technology.
4. The applicator is part of the product
VT also puts emphasis on how the product is applied. Its eye care uses a vibrating metal applicator that massages the cream into the delicate skin around the eyes and helps ease morning puffiness. Bubble serums foam on the skin. In the capsule cream the actives sit in separate capsules that are released only on application. These are not mere gimmicks — they solve real problems (puffiness, oxidation of actives, even application).
5. A soothing base even under the strong products
VT's roots are in the Cica line, and you can feel it even in the more aggressive products: the microneedle serums are formulated on a base of Asian pennywort, hyaluronic acid and amino acids. The technology (microneedles) itself is powerful; the ingredients are soothing.
Microneedle technology: how does Reedle Shot really work?
What are these "needles"?
Reedle Shot's microneedles, or spicules, are neither metal nor plastic. They are hollow, needle-shaped structures of silica that come from the skeletons of sponges. In nature they form the sponge's supporting framework; in cosmetics they are used in a purified and standardised form. VT coats its spicules with the Cica complex — hence the name Cica Reedle™.
In size, this is something the naked eye cannot see: the average length of spicules studied in the scientific literature is around 250 micrometres, with a diameter of about 12 micrometres. For comparison, a human hair is roughly 70 micrometres in diameter.
What happens in the skin?
When you apply the serum to dry skin and pat it in, the spicules align with the skin's surface and create temporary microchannels in the stratum corneum. That is precisely the skin layer that stops actives from being fully absorbed. The result is two parallel effects:
- Better absorption. After using spicules, the actives that follow pass through the stratum corneum more evenly and more deeply. In tests comparing a cream with and without spicules using a fluorescent marker, absorption of the active was clearly better and more even on the spicule side.
- Gentle mechanical exfoliation. The spicules smooth the skin's surface and help shed dead cells mechanically — without acids. That means even acid-sensitive skin usually tolerates them well.
An important detail: the spicules are not absorbed into the skin. They stay on the surface and come away with the skin's natural renewal over the following couple of days.
Why does it tingle?
The tingling is part of the mechanism, not a side effect. Most users feel a light prickling or a pins-and-needles sensation lasting from ten seconds to about a minute; with the stronger levels it can last longer. If the feeling turns to burning or the skin stays red for hours, you have most likely taken too high a level or too large an amount.
How to use — step zero
- Cleanse your face and dry it thoroughly. Spicules need dry skin — on wet skin they disperse and do not work.
- Apply a pea-sized amount of product and pat it in gently. Do not rub or massage with force.
- Wait for the tingling to subside, then continue with your usual routine — serum, eye cream, moisturiser.
- Start with 2–3 times a week in the evening and increase the frequency only once the skin is calm.
- The next morning, be sure to use sun protection.
When not to use it
Microneedles are not for everyone, and they are not used daily. Avoid using them if:
- your skin barrier is damaged, or your skin is stinging or peeling;
- you have open wounds, active inflamed spots or eczema;
- you have recently had a cosmetic procedure (peel, laser, actual microneedling);
- you are using strong acids, high-concentration retinol or an LED/ultrasound device the same evening.
And the simplest rule of all: do not combine two different Reedle Shot strengths on the same evening.

- PDRN Reedle Shot 100 — one bottle, both VT technologies at once: the microneedles prepare the skin and the plant-based PDRN is absorbed better as a result. A good choice once your skin is used to microneedles and you want the benefits of the line from a single product.
- Reedle Shot Lifting Serum and Lifting Cream — a peptide line for more mature skin that can be used after the Reedle Shot serum.
- TX-Toning Essence 2000 Shot — an essence with tranexamic acid against pigmentation spots and uneven tone. One of the most common concerns among women in Estonia.
- Vita-Light Reedle Shot 100 — a combination of vitamin C and microneedles for a dull complexion.
- Cica Reti-A Cream 0.05 — a retinoid cream for pores and fine lines. Starting a retinoid usually means a couple of weeks of dryness and peeling; here the main active is combined with soothing Asian pennywort, which makes this product considerably more pleasant to use.
- PDRN Daily Mask — 30 masks per pack, for daily restorative care.
- Reedle Shot Lip Plumper — a lip gloss with microneedles that gives the lips fullness. Available in several variants (Beginner, Expert, Twinkle, Crystal).
Where to start? Three routines
First contact with microneedles: Reedle Shot 100 twice a week in the evening → your usual moisturiser → sun protection in the morning. If the skin is calm after two weeks, increase the frequency. If your skin is sensitive or the tingling feels too strong, start with Mild Reedle Shot 50 instead and move up to 100 once the skin has adjusted.
Signs of ageing and loss of elasticity: Reedle Shot 100 (step zero) → PDRN Capsule Cream 100 → PDRN Reedle Shot Eye Lifter for the eyes. Add Reedle Shot Lifting Serum twice a week.
Pigmentation spots and dull complexion: Vita-Light Reedle Shot 100 or Reedle Shot 100 as step zero → TX-Toning Essence 2000 Shot → moisturiser → SPF in the morning without fail. Sun protection here is not a recommendation but a requirement: without it, pigmentation care does not work.
Frequently asked questions
Do microneedles damage the skin?
Used correctly, no — the spicules work in the stratum corneum and do not penetrate deeper. They do, however, temporarily increase moisture loss, so a good moisturiser afterwards is a must and daily use is not recommended for beginners.
How long until I see results?
You usually notice smoother, more radiant skin after the first few uses. Pores, texture and fine lines realistically need 4–8 weeks of regular use.
Is Reedle Shot suitable for sensitive skin?
Mild Reedle Shot 50 was made for exactly that. But if your skin is currently irritated, peeling or the barrier is compromised, wait until it has recovered.
Can I use it together with retinol or acids?
Not on the same evening. Alternate days. If you use retinol, Cica Reti-A Cream is a good way to combine the two worlds without putting two strong things on the skin at once.
Are VT products vegan?
The PDRN line is based on plant-derived PhytoPDRN® from ginseng, not salmon. Even so, it is always worth checking the ingredients of a specific product on its product page.
