The first and most important step of Korean skincare: skin cleansing - cleansing oil and balm

Korea nahahoolduse esimene ja kõige olulisem samm: naha puhastamine - puhastusõli ja -palsam

Why a cleansing oil?

The name says it all: a cleansing oil is a cleanser whose main ingredients are skin-friendly oils. But this doesn't mean you should wash your face with olive oil from the kitchen cupboard. Korean cleansing oils are specially formulated to emulsify with water, turning into a milky texture that is easy to rinse off.

Common oils used in cleansers – jojoba, linseed, argan, sunflower seed, or coconut oil – feel silky on the skin and nourish and soften the skin.

But most importantly, a cleansing oil has a kind of magnetic effect:

  • it lifts excess sebum from the pores
  • completely removes makeup
  • removes sunscreen
  • removes dirt and pollution particles

Beauty of Joseon – the luxurious stars of the cleansing ritual

Our product range includes two popular products from Beauty of Joseon:

1. Beauty of Joseon Ginseng Cleansing Oil – cleansing oil with ginseng

This light, silky cleansing oil contains ginseng roots, which have been valued in Korean beauty and medicinal traditions for centuries. Ginseng revitalises and refreshes the skin, while the cleansing oil effortlessly removes both makeup and sunscreen.

2. Beauty of Joseon Radiance Cleansing Balm – cleansing balm

If you prefer a slightly more luxurious experience, choose a cleansing balm. This gentle yet effective facial cleansing balm removes makeup, dirt, and excess sebum while moisturising and soothing the skin. It contains rice water, fermented grains, and chrysanthemum extract, which nourish the skin and give it a radiant complexion.

How to use a cleansing oil or cleansing balm?

  1. Apply the product to a dry face. Oil: a few pumps onto a dry face. Balm: a pea-sized amount onto damp or wet skin.
  2. Massage in circular motions. This is a moment for yourself – let the product work its “magnetic effect” to collect all the dirt and sebum. Add a little water to emulsify the product. The oil will turn milky and easy to rinse off.
  3. Rinse with lukewarm water.
  4. Pat the skin dry with a soft towel. The skin is left clean, soft, and fresh – ready for the next steps in your skincare routine.

Are cleansing oils suitable for everyone? Yes!

It's one of the biggest myths that oil-based cleansers are only suitable for dry or normal skin. In fact:

  • Dry skin: gets extra moisture and softness
  • Mature skin: gets nourishing fatty acids and a gentler cleanse
  • Oily skin: excess sebum dissolves best in oil
  • Sensitive skin: oils are gentle and prevent excessive rubbing of the skin

Starting your double cleanse with an oil-based product is the most effective way to remove everything from your face before moving on to a water-based cleanser.

When to use an oil cleanser?

Many believe that a cleansing oil is only necessary in the evening. In fact:

  • Evening cleanse: removes makeup, SPF, and dirt accumulated during the day – essential.
  • Morning cleanse: removes overnight sebum and impurities from your pillow, preparing the skin for a radiant day.

Regular facial cleansing keeps the skin clear, reduces congestion, and promotes a more even complexion.

Summary

Oil-based cleansing is a golden rule of Korean skincare that should not be underestimated. It is the first step towards radiant, clean, and balanced skin. The Beauty of Joseon cleansing oil and balm offer a luxurious yet practical daily ritual suitable for all skin types.
